Burials and Exhumations

Each local authority has a duty to arrange a funeral when it becomes apparent that the deceased person has no friends or family able to make the arrangements or take the responsibility for paying the fees involved.
Should the need arise for the exhumation of a body the local authority will ensure that the process is carried out with regard for decorum and good hygiene. Special permission is required even when part of a criminal investigation and the operation is strictly watched over.
We have set out a series of Service Standards relating to the work that we carry out. If you would like to view these then please click on the appropriate download.
